RUGS 101: Hand Tufted

Hand tufted and looped or hooked rugs are an economical, quick way to create looped or cut pile deep enough to support hand carving. All hand-hooked rugs are made by pushing yarn through the back of a stenciled design on canvas cloth with a hooking device. A pattern is followed starting with the smallest accent color. The yarn is either left looped and forms a nubby pile (hooked) or is cut to leave a velvet pile (tufted). Shop our collection of Hand Tufted rugs below.
